The machine has 2 identical disks ad0: 9768MB <ST310212A> [19846/16/63] at ata0-master using UDMA33 ad1: 9768MB <ST310212A> [19846/16/63] at ata0-slave using UDMA33 I've installed FreeBSD on ad0, and ad1 is a virgin disk. I want to periodically back up ad0 to ad1 so that if ad0 goes pop, I simply swap them around, reboot, and I'm up and running again, even if it is a week or two out of date. I'm pretty sure I saw a way of doing this on the mailing list a while ago, that was why I bought the 2 identical disks. I can't find this solution now. I keep finding references to vinum, which I'm not sure I really need. I'm looking for a solution involving dd , raw devices, pipes or redirects , and maybe single user mode. Any ideas ?
