IMHO, most NFS tweaking is effective only for the older
NFS UDP protocol.  If your NFS clients are in the 21st
century they will be using TCP and in theory uou won't
have to deal with these problems.

I've also found from experience that the network adapter
matters greatly.  Years ago when I first started playing
with NFS I had all kinds of funny speeds, and then one day
I replaced the network adapters in all of the systems participating
with NFS with SMC8013 cards, and suddennly speed was really
good in all instances.  Of course this is all 10BaseT ISA
stuff, I'd be interested in anyone's experiences with more
modern 100BaseT PCI cards.
