Default is sync metadata, async file contents.  If you set any value to
your filesystem, and if it cannot be easily reproduced (i.e. you're not
doing an initial installation or zero level restore,) I would advise very
strongly against async metadata.  Losing half a filesystem because fsck
had to use heuristics to repair it and found a wrong consistent FS state
is not my kind of fun.
