Sounds like a good idea, if it can be done cleanly.  The split version
is pretty useless for printing, for instance.

BTW, as regards the PAM article, the legal notice (which I am required
by contract to include in the article) is missing from the split
version.  To me, that alone is a very strong argument for having the
unsplit version be the default.
