It may be that: 1) You need to be root in order to enable linux compatibility. maybe you are trying as an ordinary user 2) Maybe you raised the securelevel. You can't load KLDs if your securelevel is raised. add "linux_enable=YES" to /etc/rc.conf so it is loaded at boot time.
