I just did an upgrade the other day. Went rather smoothly. You should probably save a copy of /etc somewhere, but otherwise upgrade was the smoothest I have ever seen with FreeBSD (since 2.1.0R), thanks guys! If you're worried about disk space, nuke off your old /usr/src (if you have it).
