Not only did my knowledge suffer because everything is done at the lowest common denominator there, but the level of "support" you get on most mailing lists, or in the newsgroups pales in comparison to what you get in even the average Linux/Unix mailing list/newsgroup. I've been using Redhat for about two years now, and just started using BSD about two weeks ago... and I think I've learned more in all that time with these OS's than I ever did in Windows.
