I just tried to install 3.1 on a system that is happily running debian and NT. The SCSI controller is an Adaptec 2940UW and I wished to install on the first SCSI HD (replacing debian). I made the kern.flp and mfsroot.flp, then tried to boot. I had disabled the IDE interfaces so that FreeBSD wouldn't see the IDE drives and try to install onto them or try to install the boot loader there. The boot got all the way to the kernel config screen, where I removed the drivers I didn't need. This included the IDE drivers. Booting continued until FD detection, where it just stopped. I tried again and left the IDE drivers active, but it got to them and stopped. Previous versions (before 3.0) had no problem with this machine and I had installed 2.2.6 and 2.2.8 fairly recently. There were no error messages during the boot process, it just stopped and sat there. Any ideas?
