At some point it didn't work for me because I had JAVA_COMPILER set in the environment pointing to JIT for FreeBSD jdk 1.1.8 which obviousely did not work with Linux. However if you want to get a good performance I recommend installing JDK 1.3 for Linux. It seems a lot faster. BTW, a question on topic of Linux 1.3: would applying patches for Linux IBM JDK help to run Linux JDK in -hotspot mode? It seems to be a lot faster than -classic (until it crashes that is). Or is it just me perception?
