My file server crashed yesterday and I'm trying to prevent it from happenning again. This is what I know so far. Here's some output from dmesg: Waiting 10 seconds for SCSI devices to settle sa0 at ncr1 bus 0 target 6 lun 0 sa0: <QUANTUM DLT7000 2255> Removable Sequential Access SCSI-2 device sa0: 20.000MB/s transfers (10.000MHz, offset 15, 16bit) That's all well and good, but right before the machine crashed (locked up) I started getting some of these messages: (sa0:ncr1:0:6:0): SPACE. CDB: 11 3 0 0 0 0 (sa0:ncr1:0:6:0): BLANK CHECK asc:0,5 (sa0:ncr1:0:6:0): End-of-data detected (sa0:ncr1:0:6:0): SPACE. CDB: 11 3 0 0 0 0 (sa0:ncr1:0:6:0): BLANK CHECK asc:0,5 (sa0:ncr1:0:6:0): End-of-data detected (sa0:ncr1:0:6:0): SPACE. CDB: 11 3 0 0 0 0 (sa0:ncr1:0:6:0): BLANK CHECK asc:0,5 (sa0:ncr1:0:6:0): End-of-data detected (sa0:ncr1:0:6:0): SPACE. CDB: 11 3 0 0 0 0 (sa0:ncr1:0:6:0): BLANK CHECK asc:0,5 (sa0:ncr1:0:6:0): End-of-data detected Furthermore, I have a perl script that fires up every night to run the backup which may have attempted to write to this SCSI device. 3.3-RELEASE FreeBSD 3.3-RELEASE To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-questions" in the body of the message
