This is only for gdm2. For gdm, you should be able to launch it from /etc/ttys with the line: ttyv8 "/usr/X11R6/bin/gdm -nodaemon" xterm on secure The config files are stored in /usr/X11R6/etc/gdm. If this directory doesn't exist for some reason, you should reinstall the gdm port/package.
