Johannes,

Try using /dev/sysmouse, specify this in your /etc/XF86Config file, and choose
"Mouse Systems" as the protocol. You can either edit the file manually, or go
through all the steps by rerunning the xf86config program.

Second, use the moused daemon, enable it in /etc/rc.conf. See /etc/rc and
/etc/defaults/rc.conf for more info.
