This is because conner implemented drive detection incorrectly in the drive firmware. Later Western Digital and Maxtor developed a workaround, but it drove lots of us crazy in the early nineties. It may work to make the Conner drive the master and the Fujitsu the slave. On the other hand, it may be impossible to use these two drives together Dan Baker ______________________________ Reply Separator _________________________________ Subject: FreeBSD cannot properly detect hard disk Author: Vlad Skvortsov at Internet_mail Date: 10/2/98 9:39 PM Hello ! I am running FreeBSD 2.2-971218-SNAP. I have installed a hard disk (rather old Conner - 212M) and experienced problems. FreeBSD cannot properly detect it. Take a look here: >------------ EOOIE ÉU dmesg --------------< wdc0 at 0x1f0-0x1f7 irq 14 on isa wdc0: unit 0 (wd0): wd0: 2014MB (4124736 sectors), 4092 cyls, 16 heads, 63 S/T, 512 B/S (!) wdc0: unit 1 (wd1): wd1: size unknown, using fake values wd1: 0MB (17 sectors), 1 cyls, 1 heads, 17 S/T, 512 B/S wdc1 at 0x170-0x177 irq 15 on isa wdc1: unit 0 (wd2): wd2: 161MB (331632 sectors), 329 cyls, 16 heads, 63 S/T, 512 B/S wdc1: unit 1 (atapi): , removable, accel, iordis wd0s1: type 0x5, start 616896, end = 3499775, size 2882880 : OK wd0s2: type 0xa5, start 3499776, end = 4116671, size 616896 : OK wd0s3: type 0x6, start 63, end = 616895, size 616833 : OK wd0s4: type 0xa, start 4116672, end = 4120703, size 4032 : OK wd0s5: type 0x6, start 616959, end = 1745855, size 1128897 : OK wd0: type 0x5, start 1745856, end = 3499775, size 1753920 : OK wd0s6: type 0x7, start 1745919, end = 3499775, size 1753857 : OK wd2s1: type 0xa5, start 46, end = 331935, size 331890 : OK wd2s1: type 0xa5, start 46, end = 331935, size 331890 : OK wd2s1: type 0xa5, start 46, end = 331935, size 331890 : OK >------------ UÄÅOO UAEAI_ÉxAÅOOÑ ---------< BIOS detects the disk and it works just fine with ms-dos.
