It took me a couple of attempts to get something usable. Even given what should have been good resultions I got complete garbage on the screen (and a more than 50% chance of crashing the machine when I killed X). The mode that worked for me was "1280x1024" with 24 bit color. The one complaint I had (and was expecting) is that window blits are fairly slow (think srm console scrolling).
