The reason that Xine "locks the machine hard" is that it is causing a 100% repeatable, panic that I can trigger with a UP or MP kernel with or without the NVIDIA GLX drivers in kernel. The backtrace looks like: dsp_clone(0, e072095f, 4, e07208d0, c197af0c) dsp_clone + 0x136 devfs_lookup(e07209c8, 1, 0, c46be930, c4) devfs_lookup + 0x302 lookup + 0x24e namei + 0x24e vn_open_cred + 0x251 vn_open + 0x33 kern_open + 0xce open + 0x30 syscall(2813002f, 2813002f, bfbf002f,0, 5) syscall + 0x2co Xint0x80_syscall() Xint0x80_syscall + 0x1d Registers: Fatal Trap 12: page fault while in kernel mode Fault virtual address = 0x0 Fault code = supervisor read, page not present Instruction Ptr = 0x8:0xc05dca86 Stack Ptr = 0x10:0xe0720854 Frame Ptr = 0x10:0xe0720898 Code Segment = base 0x0, limit 0xfffff, type 0x1b = DPL 0, pres 1, def32 1, gran 1 Processor Eflags = interrupt enabled, resume IOPL=0 current process = 771 (xine) kernel: type 12 trap code = 0 Stopped at dsp_clone + 0x136: testb $0x04, 0(%eax) ------------------------------------------------- Hardware is a SB Live, Intel i860, dual Xeon.
