Be sure you type

	colorls -G

or do what I do in .cshrc:

	alias ls /usr/local/bin/colorls -GF

but that works only if you're a csh/zsh/tcsh user.  Remember color
listings are available only on terminals that display color, like
pcvt, syscons, and color xterms.

This might actually is a problem with the package installation ... it
really should tell you the alias trick or remind you what options you
need to use.
