Well., as with previous upgrade problems, I've not got any reply to that 
other than I really am *NOT* in any way customizing anything about the 
Gnome env here. The machine is, in any case is being reinstalled at 
present after I made a complete pig's breakfast of trying to fix this (plus the 
fact that I've been itching to migrate this box to FreeBSD-5 anyways).

I've had three other machines (FreeBSD-5Stable and FreeBSD-4Stable) 
running the upgrade at present - hopefully they'll complete fine.
