There are changes currently being tested to update the default Linux base to Redhat 8 (IIRC) for 4.11 (if the regression tests pass). There is discussion of a further patch to more fully generalize being able to support different linux_bases by default, that would follow that commit. So, there is active work in this area, but the next window for a possible commit is going to be early January due to the QA/release cycle. mcl
