Just to narrow in the problem:
Yesterday (Oct. 11th) I did (starting from 2.2.2):
1) CVSUP latest CVS rep. (*not* sources)
2) rm -rf /usr/src
   cd /usr
   cvs co -r RELENG_2_2 src
   cd src
   make buildworld
   make installworld

Everything worked fine, till installworld stopped because I forgot
to put network in /etc/group. After changing that, installworld finished
successfully.
