Hi, I've got a server that's beginning to take on excessive traffic. The server handles mostly CGI execution and relies heavily on a centralized database. The server was recently upgraded which provided only short-term relief. I think the only thing left to do is set up multiple servers with the database on a net app. Since this requires using NFS to access the database I did some checking around and got a lot of conflicting information about how stable byte level locking is over NFS. Byte level locking is an absolute requirement for this system to work. I've heard that older versions of FreeBSD don't support byte level locking very well over NFS but that newer versions are becoming more stable. Currently the server is running FBSD 2.2.5. Upgrading to FBSD 2.2.8 or 3 is possible if necessary. Bottom line: Is trusting a critical production system like this to NFS practical and what version of FreeBSD is most stable with NFS? Thanks in advance for any help. -- Geoffrey Robinson geoffr@globalserve.net Oakville, Ontario, Canada.
