i can see the validity of this argument, and maxim's about just trying
to link against -lneon, rather than using the libneon.la file, but
just out of curiosity, is this documented anywhere?  i've looked
through the porters handbook, and was unable to find anything
concerning .la files.  if we're going to say 'ports should not install
them', then it seems like it should be documented somewhere.
