charset=us-ascii; format=flowed Content-Disposition: inline Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Hi, FreeBSD has been my desktop since 1998-ish. Until a few years ago, I always installed via ports and tailored some port installs with make config. Now I= =20 use poudriere to build ports on another machine, and download packages from there. It's still building via ports, just on another machine. In all that time, I've only ever used the repos to get a basic system up an= d=20 running, and not depend on them for updating. Too many variables for a one-size-fits-all system to get right in my opinion. One of my fears is sys= tem or port settings getting overwritten when updating. So, beforehand I'd set = the system up with portmaster to maintain the ports. Nowadays, I make a poudrie= re instance on the build server and point pkg on the client to there. =46rom your writing, it seems that some user or system settings got clobber= ed. If a config file has been modified though, IMO it shouldn't get overwritten without user intervention. My config files for ports very rarely get clobbe= red.=20 It has happened in the past though, but thats the fault of the port and not= =20 FreeBSD itself isn't it?=20 --=20 J. --XRwESHC7KXlqFpSs Content-Type: application/pgp-signature; name="signature.asc" -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQIzBAABCAAdFiEE8n3tWhxW11Ccvv9/s8o7QhFzNAUFAl38/LcACgkQs8o7QhFz NAXC8g/+M+Sy7p/HQqhyrjU+vUpnh/lUW0MUMvNGwPM3B1LT8ONflS4pt75cigSh +RzoR55PVVTGAAzC5//1LHcxsLGw+gUizpQq2C3nH/tnG5ObWs5+VrpXVdkRFGLO S8gpqXEAxM+NjkNyqlHbz6AtXQZRIle1VySGa/OoMeDUEg08r7vjncpnzoKtGyg/ ioMR/VLVRO5VDV0k406jpThzHikQuPWoav0rpYp4Lr2LVjNO0s5EfFDvqLKOjbit 4yO70nnSY4D8HWdACTQ44m2/yzqNAvNub2VyzNtGA03PFkhLA8AcXLZZdjwpht77 mB8I5dx/XcRJLvT0tk2jzFTh+giVEOILhlUryg7XU10/oe4D/MzudaYVOmTGrHGr BEbAInC3NrRHjSX29rKccOCaw/cnYrlc8mm3B2kQKOBhxDeZiwVd/nXtoOYwVii7 hhHGXKDr8pPcL2ulkyOfmkRrQsMo83XDlkE2htNPBuXZvKPFwPMbELuQD4MQ1gb/ tbBhoigJQilwHKy5qTboA7XgqLkrufnCAbxpTov5CaNsta9sGDHnpyDXdssjmEBM QO8r0iGEARvE8Qy1M29TR2JACIvHXX99FF1HMXZRghXgO3h5zs9rbBG6g353Fngt 4iNrgm/gUkAZT0YDuCjQJSmkI0xaaEztGZxMRX3NFxk5PTaUqU4= =KW3J -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --XRwESHC7KXlqFpSs--
