Don't fear, it's pretty painless.  I learned a lot of what I know by
lurking on the mailing lists.  This one in particular has a lot of
interesting discussion, though I don't always understand it all.

Yes.  BTW it's master.passwd.

There are of course the man pages, also in /usr/share/doc you can find the
FAQ and the handbook, although of course the versions at
http://www.freebsd.org are the most current. 

In terms of paper docs, Greg Lehey's _The Complete FreeBSD_ is quite
useful.  It's best when it comes to installation and configuration issues,
and I would by no means describe it as "complete". :-)

I don't know of any such page.  Glad to hear FreeBSD is working out for
