Sorry Lal, you get extra copies of this.
If you are determined to use Unix, then you will eventually have a lot
of luck due to the ability to use the text command line. As far as I
know there are no tools that work natively on FreeBSD for the blind.
As much as I prefer FreeBSD, you may be better off with Linux.
Try searching at www.slashdot.org at the bottom of the page
for "blind users" There are a number of good discussions there and a
lot of ideas of links for you to try. Here is one of the better ones:
http://www.cs.cornell.edu/Info/People/raman/emacspeak/emacspeak.html
Also look into Zipspeak:
http://www.linux-speakup.org/zipspeak.html
I found all of that after wading through some of the junk in the
slashdot articles.
So it looks like you would certainly be successful using Linux
at least. Given that Linux and FreeBSD are not that different and both
are free, good Unix like operating systems, I don't think the choice
between them should be your biggest concern. If you really want to be
able to use FreeBSD I bet you could, since almost all Linux programs
run on FreeBSD. It may just take a little more work.
I bet emacspeak would run on FreeBSD, but I have not tried it.
You may have luck asking in the freebsd-ports mailing list if someone
is willing to port emacspeak to FreeBSD.
Good luck,
Tim
