I never worked with CTM, but i suggest you have a look at : 
http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/ctm.html

Perhaps that can explain an bit how you work with CTM, and then follow 
/usr/src/UPDATING if you have the things in place..
