All ftp performance sending big files to the fbsd machine appears as fast or faster than the old machine. But sending files with large attachments through postfix is horribly slower. A 65 mb attachment sent through FreeBSD took 35 minutes, then sending the same attachment through BSD/i (sendmail) took 2 minutes (sender PC and both bsd's on same LAN, of course). The FreeBSD machine is basically idle any ideas where to look?
