Have you looked at the suck port in /usr/ports/news/suck ? As for the news
server you'd use, I don't know, doesn't your Internet provider have one?
If not, you'll have to find one, and the "public" ones are truly terrible.
Perhaps someone here with a permanent connection may be willing to help,
I don't though unfortunately.
