No, this is not flame bait or a 'Linux vs BSD' challenge. :-)

What I am really interested in knowing is where BSD is still ahead of Linux,
where they have recently caught up, and where THEY are ahead.

My guesses:
BSD VM is ahead.
Linux TCP/IP stack has caught up.
Linux SMP is ahead.
