I'm not sure about this, but, does sysinstall run ldconfig after
installing the compat22 dist? It should have added a line

	   ldconfig_paths_aout="/usr/lib/compat/aout......

to /etc/rc.conf but ldconfig will need running to rebuild the hints
file. I don't know exactly what options to run ldconfig with to do
this though, perhaps

     ldconfig -aout <list of paths in ldconfig_paths_aout in rc.conf>
