Ahhh, how are your other machines connected to the internet? Do you plug, unplug them from the network as you need them? Do they share a hub? Make sure all are unplugged from the net before you begin the install!!! Very important. All of my installs were on blank hard drives as well. All you need are the two bootup disks and an internet connection. Once you bootup with the bootup disks, you then choose the type of install, cd, ftp, etc. After choosing FTP, you must select the interface to install from, it will ask if you want to set IP6, and then ask if you want to search for a DHCP server, this will load the dhcp client and search for an address for you. Are you getting this far? Is anything thing filled in for the network card info, i.e. address, domain, etc? Are you receiving any error messages regarding your network card on bootup? Perhaps a conflict? The DHCP 'prober' works real well, except if another machine on your network already has an a DHCP assigned address or tries to get one from RR. According to ping, ftp.freebsd.org has address 216.66.64.162. DHCP should assign the DNS servers along with the IP address, as well as gateway, subnet mask, etc, etc. ...Michael... > -----Original Message----- > From: Alejandro Heyworth [mailto:heyworth@digitaldisciples.com] > Sent: Thursday, August 31, 2000 3:44 PM > To: SILVER, MICHAEL A > Subject: RE: cable modem install.... > > > MICHAEL, > > My real problem is that I am trying to install Freebsd on a > machine that > doesn't have anything on it's harddrive, so I can't broker the dhcp > addressing through a dhcp connection.
