check /etc/fstab contains the correct entry:
# Device Mountpoint FStype Options Dump Pass#
/dev/acd0c /cdrom cd9660 ro,noauto 0 0
^^^^^^^^
as well as the CD you're trying to read is indeed in CD9660 format.
Alternatively, try
so:amnesix$ su
Password:
so:amnesix# mount_cd9660 -v /dev/acd0c /cdrom
If this works, most likely your entry in fstab is messed up.
