I agree, it is counter-intuitive, but I know it mostly works on a Unix-to- Unix connection, but I have forgotten how to set it up. There may be a problem with doing it with windows as the server, though. vnc can only grant access to a single session in windows, and that session's display is based on reading the video frame buffer. This generally would mean that you can't simultaneously lock your machine a= nd do work on it at the same time from home.
