Confidential: No Priority: High Originator: Abbas Karbassian Release: FreeBDS4.7-RELEASE i386 Environment: FreeBSD 4.7-RELEASE FreeBSD 4.7-RELEASE #0: Wed Nov 27 17:23:59 GMT 2002 root@:/usr/src/sys/compile/KERNEL47 i386 Description: I have recently installed FreeBsd4.7 from DVD. I have added the following line in /etc/rc.local file to enable the highpoint366 UDMA. "sysctl -w hw.atamodes=dma, dma, dma, dma" during boot up time the following message displayed on the screen: "Starting local daemons : sysctl :unknown oid 'hw.atamodes' " This feature was working correctly in FreeBsd4.5, and It has been broken in FreeBsd4.6 and FreeBsd4.7. How-To-Repeat: 1-) Create rc.local file in /etc directory. 2-) Add the following line in to rc.local file. sysctl -w hw.atamodes=dma, dma, dma, dma Reboot the P.C, and monitor the error message during the boot time. Fix: I do not know, since all the files since FreeBsd4.5 is changed so much, and It is very difficult to see what is going on. __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
