I do change window managers from time to time because I need to test
new versions thereof. I also need standalone tray/pager/tabber to
debug various bugs I encounter when using or porting new software,
e.g. weird G_CALLBACK() bug within g_signal handler mentioned in that
email to Muhammad. For an X11 software developer and porter, it is
instrumental to have several independent implementations of those
programs.

Weight? It weighs nearly nothing and requires minimal maintenance.
Good software can work for ages without any updates and has the right
to be ported so long as it works and being useful; anything else is
much less relevant (yes, including upstream care/support).
