DHCP probably is the best way, but you certainly don't have to do it
with NT.  There are several DHCP servers (and clients) in the FreeBSD
ports collection.  See ports/net/isc-dhcp, ports/net/isc-dhcp2, and
ports/net/wide-dhcp.
