Hey,
I'm setting up a RAID5 array using a Mylex DAC960SX controller. The
Mylex has 6 channels... I have Adaptec 2940 and 3940 controllers at
my displosal. I'm using 18GB IBM DGHSU (XP?) drives (16 of them in
two 8-bay enclosures).
I'm curious about the most efficient/robust way to configure the
array. Here's one way:
+-------+ DC0 +-------+
| Mylex |-------------| Bay 1 |--+
+-------+ +-------+ |
| |
|HC0 +-------+ |
+------+ | Bay 2 |--+
| 2940 | +-------+
+------+ T
DC0 - Drive Channel 0
HC0 - Host Channel 0
T - Terminator
Another I've considered is:
+-------+ DC0 +-------+
| Mylex |-------------| Bay 1 |T
| |---------+ +-------+
+-------+ DC1 | +-------+
| | +---| Bay 2 |T
HC0| |HC1 +-------+
+------+
| 3940 |
+------+
Any comments or suggestions appreciated. I'm also looking for general
suggestions/precautions for using such an array with FreeBSD.
Thanks,
-Mike
