Make sure your /etc/XF86Config contains the lines: Section "Pointer" Protocol "PS/2" Device "/dev/psm0" If you're running a standard kernel, you'll also have to enable the PS/2 mouse port by booting with the -c option (UserConfig), selecting 'v' for the full-screen configuration editor, and following the instructions. They're described in more detail in "The Complete FreeBSD", second edition (http://www.cdrom.com/titles/os/bsdbook2.htm).
