The programs you quote > reinitialize the terminal and clear out any existing settings. yes, i can do that. but it's a hassle. i guess i wish the programs would read the current settings and restore them so i don't have to mess with it everytime i launch one of those programs. or maybe freebsd could. i don't know enough to know which would be the most proper solution. i guess an alias or script could do it also.
