Hi everyone; I have recently purchased a NEC 870 Superscript laser printer. I've been trying ot get it to work with my FreeBSd-3.4 Release. I can lptest> /dev/lpt0 and get one line of text with no problem, but as soon as I add a filter to use the spool, i get the following error: cannot execv /usr/local/libexec/filter (where filter has my filter script). I cannot get around this. I have checked both the /etc/printcap and my filter functions and they seem fine. I have noticed though, looking through my /var/log/lpd-errs file that I have a papd[325] atp_open: Protocol not supported. I'm sure this is the source of my problem. Where can I get papd from and where do I install it. Thanking all in advance -Uriel My files are below: /var/log/lpd-errs Mar 23 23:07:11 sefercity lpd[218]: restarted Mar 23 23:07:16 sefercity papd[325]: restart (1.4b2+asun2.1.3) Mar 23 23:07:16 sefercity papd[325]: atp_open: Protocol not supported Mar 23 23:20:27 sefercity lpd[218]: restarted Mar 23 23:20:32 sefercity papd[325]: restart (1.4b2+asun2.1.3) Mar 23 23:20:32 sefercity papd[325]: atp_open: Protocol not supported Mar 23 23:22:50 sefercity lpd[391]: cannot execv /usr/local/libexec/filter Mar 23 23:22:50 sefercity lpd[390]: lp: job could not be printed (cfA033sefercity.ampnet.net) /etc/printcap lp|dracula|local line printer:\ :sh:sd=/var/spool/output/lpd:mx#0:\ :lp=/dev/lpt0:\ :lf=/var/log/lpd-errs:\ :if=/usr/local/libexec/filter: /usr/local/libexec/filter #!bin/sh /bin/cat && exit 0 exit 2 useful output from dmesg: ppc0 at 0x378 irq 7 flags 0x40 on isa ppc0: SMC-like chipset (ECP/EPP/PS2/NIBBLE) in COMPATIBLE mode ppc0: FIFO with 16/16/8 bytes threshold ppb0: IEEE1284 device found /NIBBLE Probing for PnP devices on ppbus0: ppbus0: <NEC SuperScript 870> PRINTER PrintGear,PCL,PJL lpt0: <generic printer> on ppbus 0 lpt0: Interrupt-driven port ppi0: <generic parallel i/o> on ppbus 0 plip0: <PLIP network interface> on ppbus 0 Uriel Ash Honeywell Int.
