It is about a half-day work to straighten this out.  Swapping the
cable will last a month, or so, depending on how often you do it.
Then, you will break either a disk or a controller.

An alternative is to put WIN95 and FreeBSD on the 3.1 and leave the
2.1 as it is.  You can mount the 2.1 on the appropriate parts of the
FreeBSD tree.
