Did you disklabel it? Note that disklabeling a ccd device a bit special
case, iirc the process is explained in the handbook. You basically
create a default label which you dump to a file, and then, after editing
that file, reload it.
My label:
flynn@isengard% sudo disklabel ccd0
# /dev/ccd0:
3 partitions:
# size offset fstype [fsize bsize bps/cpg]
a: 34057856 0 4.2BSD 2048 16384 28512
c: 34057856 0 unused 0 0 # "raw" part,
Then you can proceed and newfs the a partition.
