ports-current (the latest port tree) has configuration for gnats
	3.104-beta in databases/gnats.
port tree included in 2.2.2-RELEASE is a snapshot in the past time,
(when the 2.2.2-RELEASE was freezed) so it may not be very
	up-to-date.

How to upgrade should be in handbook, but I don't have handbook
	handy right now.

Do you mean GNU GNATS is written in Ada? I don't think so.
