I run 3com 3c905-TX 10/100 cards. they cost about $100.00 and are really
fast. I have used as many as 2 in a machine at any one time, I have yet
to try more than 2, so I can't tell you about more. The ISA based 3c509
cards work really well, and have had up to 2 in a machine. they are
directly supported in the 2.0.X and abover kernels, and you can find
drivers for the 1.2.X kernels. They run great at both 10mbs and 100mbs a
second, and are used in the Beowulf project(supercomputer with pentiums)
