I did this, loaded FreeBSD onto da0s2 and made a 35MB FAT16 (i.e. "DOS") partition. Then I rebooted from an MS-DOS floppy and ran fdisk. It exited with the error message "No fixed disks". (Or something like that.) The box still doesn't see the array as a bootable disk. Suggestions?
