just for additional info:

FreeBSD has already been shifted with a perl
interpreter/compiler and so, if you will do a    `perl
-v` on a freshly installed freebsd.. chances are you
will end up with a line similar to this:

"This is perl, version 5.005_03 built for
i386-freebsd"

So if you'll ever want to use the version that was
installed through port system, don't forget to run the
"use.perl" script located somewhere in your
/usr/local/bin.
