The following reply was made to PR ports/159735; it has been noted by GNATS. From: "Edward Sanford Sutton, III" <mirror176@cox.net> To: bug-followup@freebsd.org, mirror176@cox.net Cc: Subject: Re: ports/159735: [patch] adopt and update comms/rxtx Date: Wed, 24 Aug 2011 13:18:04 -0700 After discussing with Bob Frazier, he had trouble applying my patch and tried to manually get to the same goal as it had but missed the changes added by patch-src-gnu-io-RXTXCommDriver.java which does the same as his last listed patch. We both have success under openjdk; made the SerialImp patches unneeded by Bob. After giving some thought to requiring openjdk, the only way I see to do it is to test JAVA_PORT_VENDOR and list as ignore with a message saying it is only for JAVA_VERSION=openjdk but it has worked with other JDKs to talk to my device through a USB port successfully. It seems handy to have comms/rxtx be able to be installed multiple times with different JAVA_VENDOR values, but upgrading is then not a clear path as it would require rebuilding the port with the knowledge of that variable on each build.
