And looking at Discord's ports area, people are doing that
because other people tell them that latest will get rid of
old-vintage problems that folks do not want when they ask
about such. No one that comments seems to know otherwise
up front.

It looks like tech-lists@zyxst.net submitted this after trying
to help someone on Discord that had already tried using latest
based on such expectations. The vintage issue was noticed (in
part?) by the lack of the modern .pkg / .txz pairing.

https://docs.freebsd.org/en/books/handbook/ports/ gives no
hint that latest might not be maintained/updated. So it
adds to folks expectations and confusions in contexts where
quarterly has the most regularly updated builds available.
Folks reference and are pointed to that content as well.
