Freebsd is an entirely separate operating system from pc-bsd and desktop-bsd ... You will have to compile your own upgrades...and the drivers are specific meaning it depends on which chipset / logic board you are trying to support

thinking about trying freebsd,
how are the driver issues? for the latest laptop wireless networking..etc
how about software upgrades, are they self updating ? or does one need to 
compile his own. what is the best distro of freebsd PC-BSD or Desktop-BSD
