Here in France, it's even worse than that.  It seems that every single site in
France is built with Shockwave, making it inaccessible to anyone who cannot
support Shockwave, or has it disabled for security reasons (as I do).  I don't
visit a lot of French sites in consequence.

How do I know if I have Linux compatibility installed?
