I have an Adaptec 2940U2W with a 7 device 68 pin cable. I have a single hard drive, a Quantum Atlas IV SCA (with SCA->68pin adapter) . I find that I get the errors when there is a lot of drive to drive copying between that drive and my 3 other ide drives. I also notice it happens more often if the cable is plugged into the LVD/SE slot, so I leave it in the Fast/SE connector and it works fine. One note on the drive writing, it's only on drive to drive. When i do make worlds, it works fine. Sometimes when this happens, I just get an error and then it goes back to normal use. Sometimes it requires a reboot. Maybe these comments will help reduce your errors if you can't replace the hardware at the current time. -Otter > A device timeout occured (i.e. the sa driver had to wait too > long for the device to respond), so the driver assumed that the > drive went out for lunch, and it sent a reset command to try to > bring it back. > > This could happen, for example, if the drive spends too much > time trying to correct a read error, or if rewinding the tape > takes too much time, or things like that.
